Wyndham Early Learning’s Kinder 3 and Kinder 4 are heading out tomorrow to continue our involvement in this wonderful program. We are heading behind aquamoves carpark to plant at least 60 new trees in our local community. https://www.facebook.com/share/1H3RiTE2r2/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Greater Shepparton school students have celebrated a decade of community tree planting and environmental education through the One Tree Per Child program.
Since becoming the first council in Australia to adopt the initiative in 2016, Greater Shepparton has planted almost 200,000 indigenous trees, shrubs, grasses and groundcovers through the program.
Founded by Olivia Newton-John and Jon Dee, One Tree Per Child was created to encourage every child to plant at least one tree before leaving school.
Mr Dee said Greater Shepparton embraced the program's vision early and had grown it into one of the world’s leading One Tree Per Child communities.
“The program not only helps create habitat for wildlife and greener communities, it also gives many young people their first experience with volunteering and caring for the environment," he said.
