🖤💛❤️ 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐎𝐂 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

As part of NAIDOC Week, participants enjoyed the opportunity to paint their own boomerangs while learning about the rich cultural significance of the boomerang within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

The session explored the many traditional uses of boomerangs, including hunting, ceremony, music and storytelling, highlighting the importance of respecting and recognising the world’s oldest continuing cultures. Through hands-on creativity and meaningful discussion, participants gained a deeper appreciation of Indigenous history, culture and traditions.

It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, learn, create and celebrate the strength, resilience and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Kelvin hasn’t taken long at all to settle into our 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 & 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒚𝒍𝒆 𝑯𝒖𝒃, quickly finding his place and following what interests him most. One space that really stood out was our 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌 where Kelvin chooses to spend his time while attending Shepparton Access.

With a strong passion for woodwork, Kelvin wasted no time sharing his interest with the EcoPark team — and from the very beginning, he knew exactly what he wanted to create. His first project? A letterbox, thoughtfully planned to take home and gift to his family. 📮Supported by our mentors, Kelvin took the lead every step of the way — from designing and planning, to identifying the materials needed, right through to building his project. In just under a month, Kelvin completed his letterbox and proudly brought it back to the Hub to show us all before taking it home.
