Did you know, if your vehicle has stopped on a freeway, highway or Main Road and is obstructing traffic or in a hazardous location, you can call Main Roads Western Australia on 138 138 to arrange having your vehicle moved to a safer location, FREE OF CHARGE?

If you breakdown or are involved in a crash, you should:
1. Switch on hazard lights.
2. Make every effort to exit freeway or highway.
3. Move to an emergency lane or to the side of the road, if possible.
4. Call emergency services if required or injured.
5. Only exit your vehicle if safe to do so.
6. Never try to cross a freeway or highway.
7. If waiting for assistance in your car, keep seat belt fastened.
8. Call roadside assistance, if you are a member.
9. For further assistance, call Main Roads on 138 138.

Common crash mistake: rushing to accept the first tow truck at the scene 🚗

Do these 3 things:

📝Don't sign an agreement until you agree on a fee and towing location. You have the right to decide who tows your vehicle after a crash.

☎️ Call your insurer to arrange an authorised towing service. Remember, only you or the police can authorise towing. In some cases, Main Roads WA can be contacted on 138 138, and can tow your vehicle to a safer location away from traffic.

Main Roads can deploy a tow truck or an Incident Response Service vehicle to move a crashed or broken-down vehicle that is obstructing traffic or causing a hazard on a main road or freeway.

This service is provided free of charge. Contact the Main Roads Western Australia Customer Information Centre on 138 138 to report an incident unless there is a need to phone emergency services.

Once in a safer location, you can call your insurance company and make your own arrangements for your vehicle to be towed to an agreed location.
