Always believe in knowing the basics before we promote anything - this was the perfect opportunity for that.
Spent the last couple of days at the Data Centre Leadership Summit in Sydney, and I’ll be honest at one point it felt like I was back in my old college science class… but in the best way possible.
There was a lot to take in, and I walked away learning a great deal about how data centres truly operate and where the future is heading.
What’s very clear is that we are entering a new infrastructure cycle driven by AI. This is no longer just about software or cloud, it’s real, physical, billion-dollar infrastructure.
The biggest shift is from “where is the land?” to “where is the power?” because power, speed to access it, and planning approvals will define who leads.
From a commercial real estate perspective, this changes everything. It’s about long-term positioning around power, connectivity, and policy alignment, not just land.
Key takeaways:
* Compute demand is growing exponentially
* Power is now the biggest constraint
* Speed to market is becoming a real advantage
* Sustainability is non-negotiable
* Community engagement is key for approvals
* Australia has strong potential but needs faster alignment
Great to attend this with my colleague and connect with leaders across development, energy, and infrastructure.
Looking forward to working closely with data centre providers to help solve the land and power equation.
As a commercial agency, we are sitting on strong land opportunities and would love to connect with the right partners in this space.
