Let's have a quick, very honest chat about where you are getting the photos for your business page.
Lately, we have seen a huge spike in local businesses grabbing images off the internet, cropping out the original artist's watermark, and putting their own logo on top. We know it is tempting when you are in a rush and just need a quick post, but taking someone else's hard work without permission is a really bad move.
It is not just illegal. It is incredibly unfair to the amazing creative minds who rely on their art to pay the bills.
The "no one will ever notice" excuse usually ends in a very stressful and expensive legal letter. Let us keep it ethical and protect your reputation at the same time.
1️⃣ Use proper stock sites. Buy your images from reputable places so you know you have the right licences.
2️⃣ Take your own photos. Pull out your phone and create something original. It is better for your brand anyway!
3️⃣ Read the rules. If you find a free image, double check the terms to see if you are actually allowed to use it for a business.

When was the last time you actually looked at your own website on a mobile phone?
We talk to business owners all the time who have not clicked through their own site in over6 months. They treat their website like a printed flyer. They make it once and then completely forget about it.
But imagine if you left the same window display in your physical shop for three years straight. It would get dusty, the signs would fade, and people would stop looking.
Your website is exactly the same. Broken links, outdated team photos, and old pricing will actively drive potential customers away. Grab a coffee this week, pull up your website on your phone, and pretend you are a brand new customer. Make sure your contact forms actually work and your opening hours are correct. Keep your digital shop window clean!

We need to clear something up for all the local business owners out there. You do not have to do a trending dance on TikTok to sell your services.
It is so easy to get caught up in the hype every time a new app launches. You feel like you are missing out, so you create an account and try to keep up. But trying to be everywhere at once just leaves you exhausted and confused.
Here is some highly practical advice. You only need to be where your customers are.
If your ideal client is a local mum looking for a great cafe, she is probably on Facebook and Instagram. Stick to those. If you sell commercial plumbing, your buyers might just be searching Google.
Figure out where your people actually hang out online, and just focus your energy there. You have a business to run. Stop trying to be an influencer on five different apps!

We have all looked at a competitor's social media page and thought, "Why do I even bother?"
When you are exhausted from fighting fires in the back office, and you see another local business posting about their amazing team retreat and record breaking sales month, it is enough to make you want to throw your phone in the bin.
But you have to remember that people only post the good stuff.
You do not see the invoices they are chasing, the staff members who just quit, or the sleepless nights they are having. You are doing a much better job than you give yourself credit for.
Stop comparing your real life business to someone else's highlight reel. Put the phone down, make a coffee, and remember why you started doing this in the first place. You are doing great.

Are you still sitting on a great idea because it is just not "ready" yet?
So many business owners completely paralyse themselves trying to make everything perfect. You want the website to be flawless, the social media post to sound like a poet wrote it, and the timing to be exactly right before you make a move.
Here is the truth. Your customers do not care if your video is slightly out of focus. They just want to know you can solve their problem.
Waiting for perfection is just an excuse to stay safe. Put it out there. It might be messy, and you might have to fix a few typos along the way, but taking messy action will always get you further than sitting still. Back yourself today and just hit publish!

Lets talk about the real cost of running a small business. It is not just the financial stress. It is the toll it takes on your family and friends.
How many times have you sat at the dinner table, completely zoned out, thinking about a client problem? How many weekend events have you missed because you had to catch up on admin? When you own a business, your personal relationships usually take the absolute biggest hit.
Ant is wrapping up his upcoming "Built For Business" e-book series by diving deep into the Relationship Mindset. He is writing exactly about this struggle. The book covers how to stop letting your business rob your family of your time and attention, and how to actually leave the work at work.
