A recent renovation customer left us a really kind review after using the Rainbow Quartz team and product for a second time.

What stood out to us was that they mentioned the team working hard, tidying up, paying attention to detail and taking pride in the finished work.

We’re always grateful for feedback like that, although part of us thinks those things should simply be expected when you’re working in someone else’s home.

Like anyone, we’re customers ourselves in other parts of life and business. When you engage someone to do work for you, you expect them to respect your property, value what matters to you, and leave things the right way.

That’s something we try to keep front of mind on every renovation.

Thanks again to Ivan for trusting us a second time, and for taking the time to leave the review.

FYI - Ivan’s pool was finished in our Bright White colour.

Rainbow Quartz now accepts credit card payments:

A customer recently asked whether they could pay for their pool renovation by credit card so they could make use of their frequent flyer card points.

It wasn't something we'd previously considered but we agreed it was a good idea to offer this for customers.

So, from now onwards, we’ve added credit card payments as a payment option for renos. If you’re already spending the money and you’re entitled to points or rewards through your card, you may as well have the option to use them.

Rainbow Quartz will cover the merchant fees too, so customers aren’t out of pocket for choosing to pay by card.

It’s a small thing, but if there are practical ways we can make the process easier for our customers, we’re always happy to explore them.

We’re excited to announce that Rainbow Quartz is again a proud sponsor of the Perth Football Club for the 2026 West Australian Football League (WAFL) season!

We feel that Perth FC aligns well with our business in terms of values, community spirit and collaboration. As the WAFL season kicks off from April through September, we’ll be cheering on every mark and goal. Go Dees!

Case Study: Algal Staining in Grout - Rainbow Quartz 16/02/2026

Last week we visited a pool owner customer, who had their pool plastered in Blue Lagoon back in January. They'd noticed a couple of recent small brown stains in the grout on a longer stretch of wall.

After an onsite look, it was clear the marks were algae that had penetrated into the grout during an early period where chlorine levels had been very low (the owner had been testing and keeping records as we always recommend).

Algae can present brown or green, and because grout is more porous than plaster, it can settle slightly below the surface if water balance isn’t right in those first few weeks. Importantly, the plaster itself was still in excellent condition with no signs of algae establishing on the finish.

We tested removal of the stain progressively (nylon brush, wire brush, then pumice) and were able to remove the affected surface layer of grout to address the problem. Whilst this removed the current symptom, we advised that they carefully monitor sanitation levels (for their scenario, it was chlorine but it's system dependent) and speak immediately with their pool technician about a possible shock treatment if there are any signs of recurrence. You can remove algae from a surface but it often needs to be killed off in the water to prevent recurrence. To assist further, we also redirected a return jet to give more circulation to the wall in question.

In short, in the early stages after plastering, sanitation levels must be kept consistently within the recommended range to prevent this kind of thing. Even a short period of low levels can allow algae to establish in porous areas, particularly in the curing stage following plastering.

Regular brushing, good circulation and working with an experienced pool care professional to manage water chemistry makes all the difference.

The owner was pleased we were able to identify the cause and provide clear guidance going forward. Overall, their pool was looking great and settling exactly as expected. Aside from addressing the low chlorine early on, they'd been very diligent.

A scratch coat is a particularly good idea for rough or uneven shells. It's basically an initial layer of plaster produce that goes on and is allowed to dry before the final quartz finish is applied.

Another renovation almost complete. This morning we applied the scratch coat. This evens out the rough shell and provides a good bond for the new plaster. The results speak for themselves. We scratch coat every renovation.

We've been asked a bit recently for tips on how to select the right colour for a particular pool. Whilst it obviously comes down to personal choice, the key considerations are:

1 - Your pool's surroundings and landscape. The colour should complement your home, paving/decking and outdoor setting (trees, gardens, stones etc)
2 - Lighter finishes give a bright, spacious 'resort style' (eg: The water feature pool in our images here); whereas darker finishes create a sleek, modern or dramatic depth (see the L shaped pool in our images).

If you'd like to know more, we've shared our experienced team's personal takes via our blog:
