When one rescue leads to another 🪶
A little while back, DRWS took in a fancy pigeon that had been badly injured after being chased by a bird of prey. With time, care and a lot of patience from our team, he made a full recovery — but despite our best efforts, we were never able to track down his owner.
Rather than this good news story stalling out, we're so pleased to say he's now in the hands of the wonderful — a dedicated, volunteer-run and ACNC-registered rescue that specialises in exactly this kind of situation: injured, sick, orphaned and lost pigeons in need of expert care and a path forward.
It's always a relief knowing there's a group out there we can turn to for our feathered friends who fall outside the usual native wildlife brief. Their work rehabilitating pigeons and finding loving forever homes for birds just like this one is invaluable, and we're grateful for the collaboration.

Our foster homes are full, and we're urgently looking for loving forever homes.

Along with the 30+ foster pigeons currently in our care, three different families are sadly need to rehome their entire pet pigeon flocks, meaning even more birds are searching for a second chance.

Pigeons are intelligent, affectionate, and full of personality. They make amazing companions and form strong bonds with their people.
