Why do plumbers hate the "coat hanger trick" for blocked toilets?

It’s a classic DIY panic move. A toilet blocks up, and in an act of pure desperation, someone grabs a wire coat hanger from the wardrobe to try and clear the pipe.

It is an incredibly expensive mistake!
