Over the past week at the Y Westminster Early Learning Centre, our children and educators have been participating in a variety of meaningful experiences to celebrate National Reconciliation Week.
Reconciliation Week is a deeply important time for us to reflect on our shared journey towards building respectful, lasting relationships between Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. Through hands-on learning, storytelling, and art, we encourage our little learners to acknowledge both the past and the present, while actively working towards a future filled with unity and respect.
We are so proud of how our children engaged with these experiences as we continue to foster a culture of inclusivity and connection every single day.

๐โจ Celebrating National Reconciliation Week at the Y East Cannington ELC! โจ๐
This week, our little learners have been on a beautiful journey of discovery, connection, and creativity as we honoured National Reconciliation Week! ๐งก๐๐คโค๏ธ
Here's a peek at what we've been up to:
๐ด The Aboriginal Flag โ Our children explored the powerful symbolism behind the colours of the Aboriginal flag, then got their hands busy painting rocks in black, red, and yellow. A simple activity with such a meaningful message!
๐ฆ Birds & Dreaming Stories โ We were captivated by "How the Birds Got Their Colours", a beautiful Dreaming story from the Bardi people of Broome. Inspired by its magic, the children created stunning bird collages using real feathers โ each one as unique as the story itself!
๐ช Dot Painting & Paper Mache โ Tiny hands got creative with traditional-style dot painting on boomerangs, and we even crafted our very own paper mache sea turtles. The concentration and care our children put into these was just wonderful to see!
๐ฆ Indigenous Animal Names Through Play โ Did you know the word "kangaroo" has Indigenous origins? Our children have been learning the Indigenous names of beloved Australian native animals through fun, play-based exploration.
We are so proud of our children for approaching these experiences with open hearts and curious minds.
Reconciliation starts with learning, listening, and growing together โ and that's exactly what our ELC community did this week. ๐
