The husband and I are making a concerted effort to move away from non-stick pans of late. I know I should have been all over this years ago but to be honest, for some reason it was just too difficult and we always needed to have at least one pan in the house, for “delicate” dishes.

Lately though my old Esteele deep sided stainless steel pan, my absolute FAVOURITE cooking “appliance” my fire engine red Le Creuset frypan and my new freebies from Woollies, the Fissler mob, have been front and centre on our stove.

My other fave “stick” pan is my other old Le Creuset casserole dish or dutch oven as they call them (I’m sorry, but I just can’t help but think about farting in bed when they call them that 💨 😂). I use that one every Monday for my breadmaking at the bare minimum. 🥖

Stephen, bless his heart, is fully on board, especially for the steak in the red frying pan as it does a magnificent job, but he disgustingly declared that the stainless steel pans were “sh*t” for cooking scrambled eggs.

“Challenge accepted” I thought to myself. 👍

I remember seeing videos (thanks again to a beautiful client, I learn so much from you guys!) about how to prep your stainless steel pan to make it non-stick so I googled a vid, followed the instructions to the letter and the scramble was unbelievable!

It worked a treat and my favourite thing ever is to wait til the pan gets to heat and do the water drop test, technically known as the Leidenfrost effect, where the water hits the pan and the temperature causes it to form little balls, for want of a better term, that dance or glide across the frypan. It is SO COOL, but then again, I am weird. 🥸

I added the oil as he said, a tiny wee bit of butter and the eggs. It was beautiful as they formed big ribbons of golden egg as you slid them around with the spatula.

It was great fun and I will be showing him how to do it if he wants to. I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like food tastes so much better in stainless steel or cast iron, it’s like the only flavour you get is actually the food.

Oh and so you know, you don’t have to sacrifice a limb to get the expensive cookware like I have, they were for special birthdays but to be fair, they’ve lasted like 20-30 years some of them! 🎁

Anyway, I have long believed we’ve been sold a major pup with this whole low fat malarkey and it has caused a myriad of health issues since it started in the ‘70’s for many reasons, so it’s back to basics for this lil black duck. 🦆

The pics are of me sliding the egg over in the pan, the final dish and how clean the pan was after I’d poured the scramble onto the plate. Didn’t leave the dog a lot to lick I gotta say. 🐶
