Finally swapped my main machine over to Debian 12 (Linux), so I'm finally running all Linux machines in my house! Not a massive thing of course, but I've always been a Windows person since I started with computers and haven't really ever considered a different Operating System (OS) till a few years ago. It'll be a learning curve for sure, but I'm excited to build my knowledge up on it and then apply that back to all of you!

For now, here are some screenshots of me fiddling around with themes! So much more control over what you want your OS to look and feel like!

A little while ago while out with my partner we stopped into JB Hi-Fi and I went off into the laptop section as I wanted to see what the performance of Windows 11 on brand new hardware was like if you were to buy it directly from the store.

RAM (Memory) usage is abysmal on Windows, with these machines which should be as close to a fresh install as you would get from a store either nearly or going over half of the available Memory that the machine has. For those who don't know, memory sits between the storage of the device (Where all of your files are) and the other parts of the machine like the CPU or GPU and act as a place where data can be placed for quicker read/write operations, as SSDs are fast, but RAM is much faster. This means if your machine has no available Memory or only a small amount, your machine will take longer to run programs or perform tasks as it doesn't have as much to use on what you want to do, and with Windows, it eats up so much with Telemetry, bloatware from the manufacturer and other background processes.

And if people can deal with this that's fine, in most instances people won't notice a thing. But as the years go on these Operating Systems require more and more resources, and if you ever wonder why your machine is running slow, this can be one of the possible reasons, and why Linux on an older machine can be more beneficial that Windows, as on Windows, your trading performance and usability (In some instances) for software comparability.
