Last Friday, I was pleased to attend the opening of the new offices of the Universal Business Group in Cannington, representing Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti.

As the local member for Cannington, I know how important local businesses are to our community. They create jobs, support local families and help strengthen our local economy.

Congratulations to Taral Khandheriya and the entire Universal Business Group team on this exciting milestone.

The Cook Labor Government is keeping public transport affordable for WA families, students and commuters.

That means:

$2.80 for all fares with a SmartRider on Autoload.

Free public transport every Sunday for SmartRider users.

Free travel for school students from Monday to Friday during the school year when using a Student SmartRider.

Whether it’s getting to school, work, appointments, sport, or a day out with family, cheaper public transport makes a real difference.

From 1 July, almost all beverage containers between 150ml and 3L will be eligible for a 10c refund – including flavoured milk cartons, wine and spirit bottles.

Since Containers for Change began, Western Australians have donated more than $16.7 million to charities, community groups and schools, while supporting hundreds of local jobs across our State.

This expansion means more containers can be recycled, more money can go back into your pocket, and more jobs can be supported across the community.

We’re supporting local clubs to keep more girls playing sport.

The Game On, Girls grants program helps clubs boost participation, build confidence and keep young women active, connected and part of a team.

Congratulations to Dynamic Flame Badminton Club, which has received $5,000 through the program.

Glad to have Ellen from The Essentials Collective pop by to collect the donated items from the box at the front of my office.

My office is still accepting donations for The Essentials Collective, and they would be very grateful for your support.

Feel free to drop by Monday to Friday if you have any items to donate.

Thank you to the Western Australian Myanmar Democratic Network for the invitation to attend the celebration of the 81st birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on Saturday.

The occasion was marked with sadness, as the community continues its campaign for proof of life of Ms Suu Kyi, who remains detained in Myanmar.

Best of luck to the West Coast Fever ahead of their semi-final against the Melbourne Mavericks at 2pm today!

I was lucky enough to meet the team at a Parliament sundowner earlier this week. Looking forward to seeing WA get behind them at RAC Arena.

Happy to support young Brayden on his trip to the Philippines for Elite WA Basketball.

It’s fantastic to see a Beckenham local representing our community on the international stage. Wishing Brayden all the best as he takes on this exciting opportunity.

I was delighted to visit the Sulivan and Robinson families this Monday as they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversaries.

Unfortunately, Mr Robinson was out playing ping pong when I stopped by, but it was still lovely to deliver flowers and help mark such a special milestone.

Dropped into the SNESA Football Club yesterday — first game with the new scoreboard! Great to deliver on my election commitment to the club, along with two fridges to keep things running behind the scenes. Thanks to the club President Rafic Aoun for showing me around.
