It was really lovely to get a visit from a local Rotary Club member (Mr. Ewan Ross) today at our Wheelshop in Midvale (WA).

Our Wheelshop Supervisor (Marcus Gregson) gave Mr. Ross an up-close look at our advanced, Wheelset assembly processes:

🔹 cleaning and stripping of the Wheelsets
🔹 heat reactive painting of Wheelsets
🔹 "crack testing" process (NDT)
🔹 inspection of Wheelsets
🔹 measuring and machining
🔹 pressing bearings
🔹 stencilling of Wheelsets and checking for run-outs.

𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙏𝘼𝙄𝙉𝙀𝙍𝙎 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝘾𝙃𝘼𝙉𝙂𝙀

Each year, Western Australians buy more than 1.45 billion 10¢ drink containers. Sadly, hundreds of millions end up as litter or in general waste bins. The Containers for Change initiative aims to address this issue by targeting commonly littered beverage containers, including plastic bottles, glass bottles, cartons, cans, and pouches. The program encourages community involvement in recycling and reducing waste.

𝙋𝙇𝘼𝙎𝙏𝙄𝘾 𝙁𝙍𝙀𝙀 𝙅𝙐𝙇𝙔

This initiative was started in 2011 by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz along with a small group in local government in Western Australia. Since its launch in Perth, it has grown from a small, local initiative into the 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a massive global movement engaging millions of people across more than 190 countries

Both of these initiatives work well together by reducing our plastic waste and landfill items. Plastic Free July encourages us to refuse single-use plastic drink bottles, while Containers for Change allows us to earn a 10 cent refund for properly recycling those reusable alternatives.

🌏 Refuse and Recycle
The core mission of both programs is to dramatically reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills and oceans.
Phase 1 - Avoid (Plastic Free July): The challenge asks you to "choose to refuse" single-use plastics. This means ditching disposable coffee cups, plastic straws, and single-use water bottles in favour of reusable alternatives.
Phase 2 - Reward (Containers for Change): When you do purchase a beverage in an eligible container, the Containers for Change scheme encourages you to drop it off at a refund point to claim a $0.10 refund.
🌏 Maximising Your Impact This July
If you are participating in both initiatives this year, we can easily connect the two to benefit both the environment and our community:
🔹Use Reusables: Swap plastic bottles and coffee cups for reusable stainless steel or glass options to fulfill your Plastic Free July pledge.
🔹Recycle the Essentials: Since the rules for Containers for Change expanded to include glass wine and spirit bottles, as well as juice and flavoured milk cartons, you can cash in almost all of your beverage containers between 150ml and 3L.
🔹Donate Your Refunds: Many workplaces and community groups gamify their recycling by collecting eligible drink bottles and donating the $0.10 refunds directly to local charities or environmental projects

Newly accepted containers may not show the 10¢ mark yet, but they're still accepted at refund points. Use the container barcode checker or scan the container's barcode in the Containers for Change WA app.
