Just a quick reminder of some of the signs of heat stress to look for in your lawn as the temperatures soar.
*wilted leaves
*leaf curl
*colour change
*crunchy leaves
*foot imprints
If you see these signs your lawn needs water as soon as possible.
It's gotten to the time of year when retic will be needed to replenish the moisture in our soils.
With all the rain Perth has had this spring, there hasn't been the need to run programmed retic. After taking a couple of core samples yesterday, the time has come to switch the controller to auto.
Starting off on 50% run times then monitoring soil moisture and lawn health, then adjusting as needed.
To combat dry patches and drought stress, here are a couple of ideas to look at,
⛳Check sprinklers for leaks and blockages
⛳Check retic coverage and run times(10mm twice a week)
⛳Apply a quality liquid soil wetter every 6-8weeks
⛳Apply moisture retainer
⛳Incorrect soil pH can prevent roots taking up water
⛳Water in the morning
⛳Compacted soil can limit even water pe*******on and create run off

Anyone looking at pre emergent herbicide to control wintergrass and other grassy w**ds. Embargo is no longer available with Spartan herbicide being its replacement. Spartan has the same active ingredient as Barricade and is available in 500mL bottles
Product Announcement regarding Embargo Herbicide availability
Unfortunately, due to oryzalin molecule shortages world-wide, Embargo is now unavailable indefinitely. Hopefully, it will be back on the market at some stage, but it will not be this year (2021).
Turf Culture was aware of the pending Embargo molecule shortages in early 2017 and started the development of Spartan Herbicide.
Spartan Herbicide is the perfect alternative to Embargo Herbicide.
Spartan’s active constituent is PRODIAMINE.
PRODIAMINE is a member of the same chemical family as Embargo (ORYZALIN), the
Dinitroaniline family. Hence Embargo & Spartan share the same Mode of Action, which is the way they work and provide pre-emergent w**d control.
Spartan will give you the same reliable pre-emergent control as Embargo, with longer w**d control options. Expect 6+ months pre-emergent control when applying Spartan at 3 litres per hectare (or 30mL per 100m2).
Spartan Herbicide
Active Constituent: 480 g/L PRODIAMINE
For Pre-emergent Control of W**ds in Established Turf
Pack Sizes: 500mL & 10L
APVMA Approval No.: 88727
Spartan Herbicide is available now.
