The future of construction materials must be carbon-negative.
The MIRRECO® Carbon Flywheel shows how industrial h**p can power a new generation of sustainable building materials; capturing carbon, manufacturing at scale, and storing CO₂ permanently in the built environment.
🌱 Grow the crop
🏭 Turn it into building materials
🏗 Use it in construction
🌍 Lock CO₂ into the built environment
From agriculture → materials → manufacturing → carbon value.
A new industrial cycle for low-carbon construction.

Inside a h**p-built research facility at University of Plymouth. 🌱
Formed with 400mm **p/cob composite walls, a full lime wash envelope and a h**p fibre composite sheet ceiling, the building is fitted with IoT sensors tracking real-time data on air quality, use, thermal performance, moisture, airtightness, acoustics and lifecycle impact. ♻️
The aim: to generate robust evidence on durability, performance, and environmental comfort. 📈

🌱 Advancing sustainable solutions for real-world conditions 🌍
In what might be a first of its kind initiative, we’re proud to share pioneering research testing h**p building materials under extreme weather conditions in a changing climate.
Led by Piumal Amarakoon and Dr. Jonathan Whale, in collaboration with Murdoch University, ATCO, Arnowa and ClearVue Technologies Limited, the project was introduced at the WREC 2026 and is gaining momentum.

What if buildings could store energy like batteries?
By turning **p into carbon-positive materials that double as storage, future buildings could become sustainable, low-carbon power hubs, advancing the circular bio-economy.

Have you used or worked with eco-friendly building materials? ☘️
A team at the University of Plymouth are studying what helps or gets in the way of using sustainable products in the UK. 🧱
They’re looking to chat with:
• Manufacturers of building materials
• Suppliers/merchants/distributors
• Policy makers in housing or planning
• Homeowners who’ve used or considered using eco-friendly or low-carbon materials
Why take part❓
Your experience can help shape future policy and support the UK’s journey to a lower emissions future. 🏭 ⬇️
Interviews are private, take about 45 minutes, and can be done online.
