Good afternoon,

To better support you and your customers, we wanted to let you know on Thursday 12th October there will be a routine end-to-end Emergency Solar Management (ESM) compliance test affecting some solar PV systems/inverters subject to ESM requirements.

Regular and ongoing system testing is critical to the implementation and operation of ESM arrangements to ensure that the systems are able to respond in emergency low load conditions to mitigate the risk of widespread electricity interruptions in the grid.

Testing highlights any issues with inverters, such as a lack of Wi-Fi connectivity and other potential system issues.

What does this mean for me?

As a solar provider, you are responsible for ensuring that new and upgraded solar systems of your customers are compliant with the ESM requirements, can be remotely managed and that the correct information is provided during installation.

During testing you may receive customer calls and enquiries, where a customer notices that their solar PV system is online, but not generating power.

To support customers with these enquiries, you can:

Ensure they remain connected to their Wi-Fi, to ensure that we can smoothly reconnect their systems at the conclusion of the test and that they continue to meet their obligations in respect of ESM under the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS).
Reassure them that it is expected that affected solar PV systems are expected to only be impacted for a maximum of 24 hours.
