Meet Eloise.
She came in fresh and sleepy, perfection on a stick.
Her sister held her like she'd been waiting her whole life to.
This is what a newborn session actually looks like. Real, and yours.

The shot I was hoping for was the two of them together.
What I got was Evelyn pressing her cheek against her baby sister's and just snuggling in the most perfect way!
You can't direct that. You can't manufacture it. You just have to be ready for it, and quiet enough not to break it.
This is what I show up for.

I'm MJ. Photographer, accidental gardener, and proud owner of three dogs, five ducks, eighteen chickens (and two roosters, yes I know), eighteen wicking beds and an orchard. I live on a half-acre block in the Perth Hills overlooking Greenmount National Park, which feels mildly unhinged when I tell you I used to live on a tiny subdivided block in Maylands and genuinely thought I'd never have a garden.

I didn't plan any of this. I was a medical scientist. I took photos of my own kids on the side. When we moved to Perth I somehow ended up photographing homes for Airbnb, and then newborn photography started taking off, so I borrowed a baby from a mum friend. And that was it. Career pivot complete!

I'm a mum to two girls who couldn't be more different in age or personality. Hannah is 22, a beautiful, confident and competent young woman who I'm genuinely in awe of. Eleanor is 11, an accomplished singer and musician, academically gifted, and who thinks the sun shines out of her big sister's arse. Having kids at such different stages means I've been through every phase of growing up, which I think makes me pretty good at my job. I love kids, I'm not afraid to get a bit cringey to make someone laugh, and I will absolutely make fart noises if that's what it takes. Ask me how I know.

My perfect day off starts with me feeling vaguely unsettled about having nothing to do, involves a lot of pottering around in the garden, and ends with a cocktail outside at sunset watching the kangaroos bounce through. Our property has its own creek with frogs in spring, and bandicoots and wild birds that we like to give names to. I love all of it. I still can't believe I actually get to stay here, living out all my crazy dreams.

If you've been thinking about booking a session I'd love to meet you. You've been warned about the fart noises.šŸ¤Ž
