Council Of Sheol is the brainchild of Chris Gebauer (Deadspace, Exitium Sui, Capita Mortua, ex-Lebenssucht). Years of solo music has shaped an entity of its own, birthing an ethos that stands proud as its own beast. With influences spanning dark folk, southern gothic Americana, goth/punk rock, and various world music, Council Of Sheol is propelled by deep spiritual undertones which bind flesh, soul, word, and tradition. The character dwells in a landscape of ultimate duality where desert meets sea, earth is both heaven and hell, and all beings are angels and demons.

Frontman and main songwriter Chris is accompanied by a trusted circle (the council) of close-friend musicians, leaning into their renowned talents: Herb Bennetts on drums and auxiliary percussion, Oliver Royer and Thomas Major on guitars, and Konyr Wilson on bass. The Council place their artistry at the forefront of their practice, with each member contributing whatever is needed to achieve an outcome that is suitable for the vision.

Council Of Sheol’s debut full length album “Where Death Can’t Find Us” is set to release on 11th May 2026 and serves a strong foundation for future works and live performances.

Hello friends and followers. A bit of news from me.

As I draw near to the completion of the first full length album, it has come to my attention that much of new material has become very band driven. Many songs are more complex and I have brought in some musicians to record various parts to suit the vision. In a miraculous turn of events, these musicians have become artistically invested in the project. Although the project will still be driven by myself as the main songwriter, I have decided to give the band a name.

So without further dribbling, witness the birth of Council Of Sheol: Western Australia’s first southern gothic blackened folk band. This means eventual live shows and the release of a debut record under the band name later this year. Further news will come as it becomes shareable.
