Creating the most of a space and getting easy access could sometimes call for a new sliding door? For the DIY's out their i would suggest to consider a few basic's, to keep the cost down and give long life to your project. Make sure if your removing a wall for this the structure will still remain stable, this may require you to fit a lintel and strengthen surrounding walls? It's also important to think about your water proofing, so having a small step down and using flashing's will help here.
Also if you have an ugly(busy) corner in a covered area, a small broom cupboard could be a good way to tidy it up? This one even use's a leftover door, see pic's:)

Following up on my last post, the clients of the exposed concrete aggregate wanted a carport cover. So keeping there budget and location in mind i got to work on a" lean to" style cover all so know as flat or skillion roof(see pic's).
This is the most simplest, light wight and cost effective open plan cover you could do for yourself. But you'll need to be aware of council requirements as this cover work's well in a non-cyclonic locations. To achieve a open plan style in a cyclonic area you'll need a lot more bracing(see pic of gable roof open carport). Some of the bracing here come's from 200mm round post's berried up to 3.4m's below the surface(it was also on a hill).

While things have been a bit quiet this year it's given myself the perfect opportunity do do some work for myself under my own builders contractor licence and business "Build Strut". Really looking forward getting a new website out their soon and doing a bit of networking around Fremantle Perth. A great spot for historic buildings and places with its own unique vibrance.
