Step 1: Find a safe spot
Ensure you're parked on a flat surface away from traffic. Engage the parking brake and turn on your hazard lights for added safety.

Step 2: Gather the tools
Grab your spare tire, car jack, lug wrench, and your vehicle's manual. These tools are essential for changing the tire smoothly.

Step 3: Loosen the lug nuts
Use the lug wrench to turn each lug nut counter clockwise. Loosen them but don't remove them just yet. This step is easier while the car is on the ground.

Step 4: Position the jack properly
Refer to your car's manual for the correct placement of the jack. Typically, it's near the flat tire's corresponding jacking point. Ensure stability before lifting.

Step 5: Lift the car
Slowly pump the jack handle to raise your vehicle until the flat tire is around 6 inches off the ground. Remember, safety first!

Step 6: Remove the lug nuts and old tire
With the car slightly lifted, use the lug wrench to fully remove the loosened lug nuts. Carefully pull the flat tire off and set it aside.

Step 7: Mount the spare tire
Lift the spare tire onto the hub and align the lug nut openings with the bolts. Push the tire gently until it fits snugly.

Step 8: Tighten the lug nuts
Hand-tighten the lug nuts as much as possible. Then, using the lug wrench, tighten them further in a cross-pattern until they are securely fastened.

Step 9: Lower the car
Slowly lower the car using the jack until the spare tire touches the ground. Remove the jack carefully and remember to keep it and the tools in the trunk.

Step 10: Check the tire pressure
Once you've replaced the tire, check the spare tire's pressure with a tire gauge. Inflate it to the recommended level, as indicated in your vehicle's manual.
