Last night, Lighthouse Capital had the honor of co-hosting an exclusive evening at The Art Gallery of Western Australia - AGWA

We kicked off the night at TIME • BAR, where we heard from Gallery Director Colin Walker and Foundation Council Chair Paul Chamberlain as they shared thrilling plans for the future of AGWA. This was followed by a tour of the highly acclaimed immersive exhibition in the Centenary Galleries.

The event was especially significant as it coincided with Julia Schortinghuis' recent appointment to the AGWA Foundation Council. The Foundation remains grateful for the ongoing support of generous donors, who have consistently funded and championed the art and artists of Western Australia. This new role offers Julia a fantastic opportunity to expand her knowledge and skills in a new and exciting field.

Congratulations to Julia Schortinghuis on receiving a Murdoch University Distinguished Alumni Award for 2024!

This prestigious award honors Julia's outstanding professional achievements, community service, and personal journey. Her dedication to the financial advice community, particularly through The Good money habits podcast and her role as the inaugural Chair of the Curtin University Financial Planning Discipline Panel, is truly commendable.

We couldn't be prouder of her contributions and achievements!

Back in 2020, Lighthouse Capital launched The Good Money Habits podcast with the aim of creating a timeless resource for the broader community. The podcast focuses on building financial literacy and to encourage the establishment of good money habits to support financial stability and security. Back then, inflation was non-existent. How things have changed since then!

There is a lot going on in the world at the moment, so we have recorded and uploaded a two-part series that we thought may be of interest. Our portfolios have been positioned for interest rates staying higher for longer for some time now – a message that equity markets are now finally absorbing and adjusting to.

In part one, Julia interviews Michael Ip, our Director and Head of Investments and Research, as they examine what is going on in the world. With meaningful inflation, the fastest interest rate rises we’ve ever seen, geopolitical tensions, record population growth, housing supply issues, energy prices ever rising and ultra-low unemployment in the mix, what does this all mean and how does it impact portfolio construction? Julia and Michael work through how these structural changes interconnect, how it may play out and what it means in this new world of investing.

In the second part of this series, Julia chats with Michelle Taylor, Director Lighthouse Capital North, who takes us back to the basics. For those wondering how to navigate the new world of higher interest rates for longer, they explore the essentials so that you can ensure that you are ready to navigate the path ahead.
