The York Festival Writers Program Saturday 2 October

'Return to Virgin River' by @robyncarrwriter is not just a novel but is also on Netflix! After her mother's death, writer, Kaylee Sloan is devastated and develops writer's block - to try to escape sad memories, she settles in Virgin River for the holiday season. Except when she arrives her accommodation is on fire! The residents embrace her and she finds herself rescuing animals and making friends. Her sadness and grief begin to fade - her new neighbour is also her landlord - is he the key to curing Kaylee's writer's block and more?

"Another rip snorter Pet Nat from @blindcorner the enticing Blind Unicorn. Shiraz and Chenin Blanc combine to create a fizzy, cloudy glass of sunshine - something we have been sadly lacking over July with 28 of the 31 days raining. Thankfully August is giving us some beautiful sunshine. A bouquet of raspberries and cherries, followed by zippy acid supporting flavours of tart cranberries and sour cherries. Very refreshing!"

The Postscript Murders by Elly Griffiths.

When 90 year old Peggy Smith dies it seems it was just old age. But her carer Natalka has concerns and brings them to DS Harbinder Kaur who at first dismisses them.

But a masked gunman at Peggy's flat causes her to rethink and "assisted" by three amateur sleuths - Natalka, Benedict, former monk and now coffeeshop owner and Edwin, a retired BBC producer and friend of Peggy- she investigates to find just what happened to self styled murder consultant Peggy Smith.

Written in the cosy style of detective fiction, bringing with it elements of the Golden Age of crime writing, this is a witty and compelling tale and thoroughly recommended. Enjoying a glass of Cava on a mellow Saturday afternoon.
