Feeding yourself from the environment…..a universal activity shared with all life on Earth has become increasingly complex, confusing and challenging in recent years.

What can you eat?

What cant you eat?

What is legal?

What is illegal?

Where are safe locations to collect food?

What season did I just miss?

What is in season right now?

What is coming into season?

These are some of the questions we will answer at our seasonal foraging workshops.

Spoon Carving Workshop Saturday 25th April

Learn how to carve your very own spatula/ spoon at this beginners green wood carving workshop.

Similar to our green wood carving workshop we will begin the day learning about knife safety and the basics of carving wood.

Once the basics have been learned and practiced everyone will get some wood and start carving a spatula or a spoon or both if you pick it up fast or already know your way around a knife.

All materials and tools will be provided for you on the day however you’re welcome to bring your own tools if you like.

This workshop is for all ages. Children also welcome recommended age 8+

Children must be accompanied by an adult so that they can keep their child safe when whittling at home and be confident in their child's abilities to work with knives and wood.

Green Wood Carving - 21st February

Don't know how to use a knife?
Come join our beginners workshop for carving and shaping green wood with a knife.
No experience needed, kids and adults welcome

LEARN
- About grain direction and how to shape wood.
- Knife safety including grip, body positions, techniques etc.
- How to keep your knife sharp.
- How to split wood with a baton.
- How to carve a spoon, knife, shape a fire by friction kit etc.
- All wood will be provided on the day.

KNIFE REQUIREMENTS
You are not required to bring your own knife however it is recommended as you will not want to stop.
Knifes will be provided if you do not have your own.

AGE
This workshop is for all ages.
Children (age 6+) must be accompanied by an adult so that they can keep their child safe when whittling at home and be confident in their child's abilities to work with knives and wood.

WHAT TO BRING
A good quality knife (optional)
Any food or drink you may need (all rubbish must be taken home).
Appropriate clothing for the day.

Price includes the use of a knife, wood to carve on the day and extra wood to take home for future projects.

Coastal Hike, Fish & Forage - Thursday January 29th

WHERE
Northern Suburbs (location given upon booking)

TIME
9am - 12pm

WHAT TO EXPECT
- a 1.5km hike through coastal dunes to a prime fishing location
- learn how to identify edible and useful plants along the hike.
- learn how to set up a fishing rod and reel including all the knots, hooks, sinkers, swivels etc for making a rig.
- learn how to target and catch certain species of fish.
- learn how to humanely dispatch and process your fish ready to cook and eat.
- take your fresh catch home with you.

WHAT TO BRING
- Backpack to carry gear
- Any food or water you may need
- Swimming gear
- Your choice of sun protection.
- Fishing rod if you have one (not required but recommended)
- small cooler (if you want to take your fish home)
- Adventurous spirit
