NAIDOC Week was first observed in 1976 and has become an annual celebration of our First Nations peoples and their culture. It’s also a time to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land we all live on.
This year, NAIDOC Week celebrates its half-centennial with “50 Years of Deadly”. This year is about looking back at the successes of the past, seeing how far we’ve come, where First Nations people stand in modern times, and plotting a course for a future.
As we look back, let's take a moment to honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people we live alongside, work with, and support.

We’re saying a heartfelt farewell to our CEO, Justin O’Meara Smith
Justin’s last day with Interchange was 30 June, marking 10 incredible years with our organisation. Over that time, he’s helped shape who we are today- leading with purpose, creating new opportunities, and always putting people at the centre of everything we do.
Justin has always been someone who connected easily with others—approachable, genuine, and always willing to listen. That personal touch has meant so much to so many across our team and community.
His impact will be felt for years to come, and he leaves behind a legacy we’re all proud of.
Justin will be taking a short break before starting his new role as CEO at Nulsen Disability Services. We wish him all the very best for what’s ahead.
Thank you for everything, Justin 🌟
🚨 NDIS update you need to know
The NDIS has made it mandatory for SIL participants to be with a REGISTERED NDIS provider. We think it’s a great move to ensure quality standards are met.
If you’re unsure how this impacts your supports, we’ve broken it down for you in our latest blog. Link in comments.
We are halfway through 2026, but we have already had so much to celebrate!

Stephen is the 2026 Interchange WA Employee of the Year!
The reason why is simple: he takes the time to understand his customers and uses what he learns as a springboard to build them up.
From cooking to shopping and finding employment, Stephen is an advocate who gives his customers the choice and control to direct their lives. Once they choose to take the step forward or make a change, he gives them the tools, structure and support to attain their goals.
Time and again, Stephen has been highly successful in creating positive change in the lives of his customers, and it’s this track record that won him the prestigious award of Employee of the Year.
