Milestones Early Learning Edgewater

Who says painting has to be done the “usual” way? Today in Wardong, our little artists became curious creators as they explored painting using a real cordless drill fitted with a special painting attachment! 😲

Dressed in safety goggles and working one-on-one with an educator under direct supervision, children safely investigated how spinning, swirling and rotating created incredible patterns they simply couldn’t make with a paintbrush alone. There were lots of excited predictions, problem solving, scientific thinking and plenty of “WOW!” moments.

Maria Montessori believed that children learn best through hands on experiences with real tools and real life opportunities, building confidence, independence and respect through purposeful work. While safety always comes first, providing carefully supervised access to authentic equipment allows children to develop risk assessment skills, hand/eye coordination and an understanding of cause and effect in meaningful ways.

There was no “right” or “wrong” masterpiece today- just joyful exploration, creativity and the freedom to experiment. Because sometimes the learning isn’t in the finished artwork… it’s in the process of discovering what you’re capable of. 💜

Who said transitions have to be boring?

In Wardong Studio, even moving from one part of our day to the next becomes a meaningful learning opportunity! Today, our young astronauts climbed aboard their rockets and carefully navigated from Planet Earth to the Moon, steering along colourful dotted flight paths before blasting off to their next routine.

While it may have looked like an exciting space adventure, there was so much important learning taking place. As children guided their rockets around twists and turns, they were strengthening the fine motor muscles needed for writing, developing pencil grip, hand stability, visual tracking and hand/eye coordination. They also practised colour recognition, directional language, concentration and perseverance, all essential foundations for future school success.

At Milestones Early Learning Edgewater, our School Readiness Curriculum is thoughtfully designed to weave purposeful learning into every part of the day. We know children learn best through play, imagination and meaningful experiences, so even our transitions are carefully planned to build confidence, independence and lifelong learning skills.

What a brilliant way to end the week! 🎨✨

Today was all about face painting and glitter tattoos, with each child choosing their own special design. From colourful butterflies and roaring dinosaurs to superheroes and sparkly creations, there were so many smiles and excited faces throughout the day.

Giving children the opportunity to make their own choices encourages independence, builds confidence, and celebrates their unique personalities. What a fun-filled Friday to wrap up an amazing week! 💙
