Big Fat Snapper

The NT's Coastal Line Fishery plays a vital role in supplying fresh, local seafood.

Operating in coastal waters up to 15 nautical miles from shore, this fishery is made up of small, locally owned vessels usually between 5-15 metres in length. Fishers use low-impact, line-based fishing methods like hand lines.

The main specie targeted is 🐟 Black Jewfish and the fishery operates under two zones, the Western and Eastern.

Most of the catch is unloaded in the Darwin region, delivering fresh, high-quality seafood to local markets, supporting our economy, and contributing to the Territory lifestyle we all enjoy. There’s something uniquely NT about being able to walk into your local restaurant or fish retailer and choose seafood caught just days ago by a local fisher.

So next time you're enjoying some Black Jewfish, there’s a very good chance it came from a hardworking Coastal Line fisher right here in the NT.
