This month's calendar photo of P. Reliance assisting with the move of Metro Mining's Ikamba was captured by Jack Norton and the timing for this photo could not have been better!

For the next few months, the Ikamba will be at the centre of attention at Skardon River, as she will be carrying all of the operational weight while our floating crane, the TSA Skardon, is away in Indonesia for her five yearly drydocking.

Ikamba is a non-propelled transhipment platform, so it relies on tug assistance to move along the ship’s side. The tugs warp Ikamba into position at each hatch in line with the loading sequence, allowing cargo operations to continue safely and efficiently. At 132 metres long and with a displacement of 5,000 tonnes, moving her even a short distance takes effort. Every metre counts, and there is little room for error when working this close alongside another ship.

This is a great example of another task that rarely gets seen outside the crew doing it, and that is exactly why we want to share these calendar photos that show life at TSA. Even the most routine tasks are crucial to keep the Skardon river project moving and therefore they are just as important as the picture worthy parts of our operations.

Celebrating our international team at the Perth office

On Tuesday our Perth team came together for a special potluck lunch celebrating the ten nationalities represented at the TSA Perth office. Everyone was encouraged to bring a dish from home, something small or big that represents their roots. The spread of food was impressive with more food that we could get through in a single sitting, which has proven to be a blessing for this week's morning teas!

In the middle of busy workdays it is easy to forget that the people you work with every day come from all over the world. Though team gatherings are always a nice addition to a regular work day, this lunch felt extra special as the team got to not only spend time together, but also learn about each other's backgrounds and try foods from different cultures.

Thank you everyone for making such a great effort and bringing in foods from your cultures!πŸ’™

Another rewarding day for the TSA team! πŸ’™

Last Thursday our Personnel Manager Ashlee Harriss, Skardon River General Manager Todd Funch and Tow Tug Mate Ben Green had the pleasure of joining the 2026 Cairns Careers Expo organised by the Business Liaison Association .

This event is a special one as it attracts over 5,000 attendees from all over the Cairns region. It is always great being able to provide information for people considering a career in the marine industry, especially in places so close to our actual operations. Once again our activities were a big hit and it was great to see how engaged and excited these young people were to learn more and to imagine their future career paths.

Thank you to the organisers and attendees alike, we're excited to come back next year! πŸ™Œ

More than 60km covered and $3,600 raised.

Last Sunday a group from our Perth Office laced up for the annual HBF Run for a reason event. Together the TSA team covered more than 60km and and raised over $3,600 for Cancer Council WA.

The choice of charity for the team was an easy one as for many this cause is personal. Like so many people, TSA members have friends and family who have fought - and are still fighting cancer.

Beyond the fundraising it was just a really special opportunity for the team to spend the Sunday together outside of the office doing something meaningful. Well done everyone who raised money and showed up to run for a reason! πŸ‘ŸπŸ’™

Last week, we had the privilege of attending two high school careers fairs in Far North Queensland with Metro Mining.

On Tuesday we joined students at Tagai State College on Thursday Island, where we were proud to participate for the second time! For Wednesday our team headed to the Northern Peninsula Area Senior Campus in Bamaga, marking our fourth consecutive year of collaboration.

Both schools serve remote communities, and it was a genuine honour to spend time with students who are beginning to imagine their futures and explore the pathways available to them in the marine industry. It was wonderful to see so many students eagerly getting hands-on with the activities we had organised, from learning to tie different types of knots to working through an operations puzzle. This is a great reflection of the curiosity and enthusiasm these young people bring.

Events like these are a good reminder of how important it is to build connections with regional and remote communities ensuring young people have access to the opportunities, support, and knowledge they need to pursue careers they may not have considered before.

Thank you to the school staff and most importantly the students at both campuses for welcoming us so warmly. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Did you know that TSA operates one of the only floating cranes in Australia?

Back in 2021, we welcomed the TSA Skardon - a Damen 6324 dry bulk transhipment barge with a Maritime Cranes CBG 350 crane, designed to enhance the efficiency and flexibility of our operations.

At the Skardon River project, once barges are loaded, they are towed offshore to the TSA Skardon, where the crane transfers bauxite onto ocean-going vessels bound for their final destination.

But its capability doesn’t stop there. The TSA Skardon can also be configured with a container spreader or hook, allowing it to handle a wide range of cargo beyond dry bulk. With the capacity to service vessels up to Panamax and Capesize, it plays a critical role in supporting efficient offshore transhipment.

A smart, adaptable solution - helping us deliver safe tonnes, flexibly and efficiently.
