YOU can make a difference!
Did you know?
Empowering ex-prisoners through employment significantly reduces recidivism rates, fostering safer communities and offering individuals a genuine second chance.
Key Statistics:
• Recidivism Rates in Western Australia: Historically, Western Australia’s recidivism rates have ranged between 40% and 45%. Notably, there was a decline to 36% for prisoners released in 2009/10, though the reasons for this decrease remain unclear.
• Impact of Education and Employment: Studies indicate that ex-prisoners who engage in educational programs while incarcerated are less likely to reoffend. Specifically, those who successfully complete classes in prison tend to spend less time on welfare and are more likely to remain in the community without reoffending.
Call to Action:
By supporting initiatives that provide employment opportunities to ex-prisoners, we can break the cycle of reoffending. Let’s champion second chances and build a more inclusive society.
