From little things big things grow…
our 2022 plantings are flowering…seed set next..
to out compete weeds…they can do it.

The old wind farm……Australia's first commercial wind farm was established in Esperance in 1993. Here is it is….retired….

The working life of a wind turbine is around 30 years….as larger, more cost-effective units become available, older units become redundant.

Although these were built to minimise the environmental impact….they remain…perhaps that is appropriate for Australia’s first.

We need to plan with the end in mind and be careful with our waste:
- The tower is composed of high-quality steel which is recyclable (paint needs to be removed which is a disincentive for recyclers)
- The blades are fibreglass. In Australia we lack facilities for recycling fibreglass. Plastics in the blades can contain Bisphenol A
- The magnets in the wind turbine generators are made from neodymium and dysprosium (demand for dysprosium is growing rapidly as it is resistant to demagnetisation at high temperatures).

Technology is moving fast…so as we build more renewable industries it is important we see the lifecycle…build local, with the environment and circular economy front of mind.
