ππ 8 CLOTHING IDIOMS THAT NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS USE EVERY SINGLE DAY ππ
And no, none of them are actually about clothes.
That is the tricky thing about idioms. You cannot translate them word by word. You just have to know them.
And in PTE Listening, when a speaker drops one of these naturally into a conversation, you have about two seconds to understand it before the audio moves on.
So letβs make sure you are ready π
1οΈβ£ Roll up your sleeves = prepare to work hard
2οΈβ£ Dress for success = wear clothes that make a good impression
3οΈβ£ Wear many hats = have many different responsibilities
4οΈβ£ Fit like a glove = fit perfectly
5οΈβ£ Pull up your socks = improve your performance or effort
6οΈβ£ Hand me down = something passed from one person to another
7οΈβ£ Lose your shirt = lose a lot of money
8οΈβ£ Wear your heart on your sleeve = show your emotions openly
Now here is the one that should speak directly to every PTE student right now:
Number 5. Pull up your socks.
If your practice scores are not where you need them to be, it is not too late. But it is time to pull up your socks and get serious about your preparation.
Your turn π
π¬ Use any idiom from this list in a sentence in the comments. Make it about your PTE journey, your life, anything. Letβs see how creative you can get.

ππ£οΈ 23 IDIOMS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR ENGLISH SOUND FLUENT OVERNIGHT π£οΈπ
Let me tell you a story using todayβs idioms. See how many you can spot π
Maria thought PTE was going to be a piece of cake. She had been burning the midnight oil for weeks, studying every night after work. But when her first mock score came back, she realised her low score was just the tip of the iceberg. There were gaps in her preparation she had completely missed.
She was in hot water.
For a moment she thought about cutting corners and just booking the exam anyway. But deep down she knew she could not turn a blind eye to the problem. So instead she decided to leave no stone unturned.
She went the extra mile. She raised the bar for herself. And on exam day, even under pressure, she weathered the storm.
Her result? Worth its weight in gold.
Save this post. Read the story again tonight and see how naturally the idioms land the second time.
That is exactly how your brain learns to use them in your own Speaking and Writing responses.

βοΈπ₯ YOUR PTE WRITING SCORE IS SUFFERING BECAUSE OF THESE WORDS π₯βοΈ
βVery important.β
βA lot of people.β
βI think this is good.β
If any of those phrases just appeared in your last practice essay... we need to talk.
Here is the hard truth. Simple words are not wrong. But in an academic English test like PTE, they signal a limited vocabulary range. And your score reflects that directly.
The fix takes less than 5 minutes to learn.
Now read your last essay back and count how many times you used the words on the left. Then replace them with the words on the right.
That one edit alone will make your writing sound more academic, more precise and more like someone who deserves a high score.
Save this post right now. Screenshot it. Put it next to you every time you practice writing.
And if you want a full study plan that covers Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening all in one place, my FREE PTE Study Kit is the perfect starting point.
