♻️Trash to Treasure❤️. Recently, we turned what would be otherwise old, salvaged wood shingles from the historic Old Mill near Perth’s Swan River, into meaningful souvenirs by putting our graphic design capabilities to action💪.
Often, we are asked what we do at Jansu Studio. And sometimes, it is hard to explain. 🧔 Jan and 👩🦰 Su are each experienced in very different industry backgrounds – 📊 business & e-commerce, and 🏡 architectural design. With Jansu Studio, the vision is to put together these vastly different experiences to provide an all-rounded and wholesome creative design service. We actively seek potential opportunities where positive impact could be achieved or enhanced through creativity and design.
In short, we are a creative design studio offering one-stop creative and design services, to make things better for our partners and communities. What do we mean and how?
💡 We provide creative ideas and solutions to address business needs and problems.
⭐️ We turn our design ideas and solutions into an end-product.
🔁In-between, we coordinate the process and production, provide creative design inputs for the product and finally, its packaging and finishing.
📸 Being rather self-sufficient, our product photography and marketing are also done in-house.
Our design scale spans anywhere between micro to medium, analogue to digital, permanent to ephemeral. So long as it is an interesting project, or a project with an interesting background, the prospect of bringing them to life always gets us excited. 😊

Recently we had the wonderful opportunity to create a Memento for the leaving CEO of South Perth with an authentic roof shingle of The Old Mill, South Perth. The old wood shingles were treated and superimposed with a graphic image which we created from the iconic Old Mill. It turned out looking great and was very well-received.
Since then, we have gone on to carefully transform another 12 pieces of the old shingles into lovely heritage memorabilia, giving visitors and residents alike a chance to own an important and authentic piece of Perth’s history and memory.
The shingles are very beautiful, aged wood which were formerly used as roof of the historical flour mill & adjoining cottage. By preserving and upcycling the remains from the last renovation, we hope to see more heritage memorabilia being created out of preloved building materials.
A big thank you to of South Perth and Local Historian Anthony Styan for their generosity and the opportunity to transform these amazing pieces of history into rare art pieces.

OLD MILL, SOUTH PERTH - BENCH CONCEPT
One of South Perth’s historical landmarks, the Old Mill, was about to be renovated, and its old timber sails to be replaced.
We recognized this as a great opportunity to repurpose the old timber sails and breathe new life into them. Our intention for the repurposed product was for it to be functional while engaging the public and visitors as they encounter South Perth and its heritage.
By rearranging the original form of the sails into benches, and reusing the salvaged timber to create artwork, 3D name signage, or indoor/outdoor furniture, the Old Mill sails could be incorporated into the green space next Old Mill or in South Perth vicinity.
The final Old Mill Bench design was created to be multi-functional as an urban furniture, building signage, and a photo opportunity for visitors.
About the Old Mill:
“The Old Mill in South Perth is one of Perth’s best-known landmarks. Built in 1835 and operating until 1859, the mill produced 680kg of flour per day at its peak. Since ceasing production, the mill has been used as a hotel, a residence, a wine saloon and a poultry farm.”

A NEW NORMAL?
2020 will always be remembered as the Covid-19 global pandemic year. In a series of photographs, sculptures and installations, we explore the human responses to the changes we experienced.
With “A NEW NORMAL?”, we draw inspiration from one of the most obvious tools to protect oneself; – gloves. While protecting, gloves separate humans at the same time. Our art works in different settings highlight these tools of separation and protection.
In a time when touch is anxious and 'forbidden'. While it seals and protects us, the gloves' promise puts a barrier between us and the world, between our senses and our loved ones. Single-use gloves have become essential in our everyday lives and the unending demand ensues as long as the pandemic continues, just as the world became concerned with reducing carbon emissions and pollution not too long before. As the aviation industry struggles with countries' economy falling into recession, the unprecedented demand for gloves during this pandemic brings windfall fortune to glove manufacturing companies and tech companies that propels a 'touchless' society.
As we brace ourselves through this pandemic, that would be the 'new normal' when it subsides?
