Did you know that you can take some simple steps to help combat fruit flies and other unwanted pests in your garden? 🏡

With a recent outbreak of the Queensland fruit fly in the City of Bayswater and City of Belmont, WA area now is the time to check the plants growing in your backyard wherever you live:

· Keep an eye on fruit trees, vegetable garden and ornamental host plants in your garden. Regularly inspect host plants for signs of damage including small holes, or the presence of larvae/maggots 🍋

· Pick up and dispose of fallen fruit. Fallen fruit is a prime breeding ground for fruit flies, so it is important to pick up and dispose of any fallen fruit correctly as soon as possible.

· If you do not want to harvest your fruit, consider removing unwanted fruit trees from your garden.

Queensland Fruit fly is a serious horticultural pest in Western Australia which attacks and damages a wide range of cultivated fruits and fruiting vegetables. Damage is caused when the female lays eggs into ripe fruit and a resulting larvae infestation occurs.
