Massage does more than just manipulate muscles. Massage can stretch and reflexibalise tightened tissue such as fascia and the seamless tissue layers connecting muscles, bones, and organs.
Massage can make movement easier through manually moved fluids that can loosen joints and reduce swelling.
Fluid build-up in arthritic joints may be reduced, alleviating swelling and pain. Also, the lymphatic flow can be improved through massage, stimulating and supporting the body's immune system.
Massage may also help increase blood circulation, which moves nutrients and waste products through the body and speeds healing.
