What happens when learning demands feel too big?

We recently worked with Servite College to explore practical, neuroaffirming strategies that help students stay engaged, regulated and connected to learning.

The session was co-designed around the needs of their school community, with a focus on practical support educators can use in the classroom.

Because the best outcomes happen when schools and allied health work together.

July's Noongar Word of the Month is Kaarlak.

More than just a word for home, Kaarlak speaks to connection, belonging and the spaces where people feel safe, welcomed and supported.

At Superyou, creating that sense of connection sits at the heart of what we do. Whether it's in a therapy session, our workplaces or our communities, we believe everyone deserves a place where they feel they belong.

We can begin by reframing “behaviour” as communication, regulation, and something unique to each individual. When we take this lens, we prioritise safety, autonomy, and wellbeing.

At times, our own perspective can lead us to feel concerned about behaviours that look different. It’s important to pause and consider what might be behind them—these actions may help a person feel safe, express a need, or self-regulate.

For example, Alex often hums and yells out during busy times in the classroom. Rather than viewing this as disruptive, it’s helpful to understand that crowded, noisy environments can feel overwhelming, and these actions support Alex to stay calm.

Instead of trying to stop the behaviour, we can adjust the environment and support him by:
• creating a quiet space he can access when needed
• offering noise-reducing headphones
• providing choice and control over taking breaks

By staying curious about what is being communicated, we can better support safety and wellbeing—without taking away autonomy.

At Superyou Therapy, we’re passionate about making support more accessible for children and families who need it most.

One area where this really matters is autism assessments. We know how long waitlists can be, and how difficult it can be for families to access a timely diagnosis. Without that, it can delay access to support, funding, and the right care at the right time.

Our team has been working closely with local paediatricians to provide autism assessments using a neuroaffirming, whole person approach. This work focuses not just on diagnosis, but on understanding each child in context, their strengths, needs, and the supports that will make a meaningful difference in their everyday life.

Being able to offer this service to more families has been incredibly important to us, and we are starting to see the impact it can have when barriers to access are reduced.

We are very grateful to the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation for making this work possible. Their support has helped us reach families who may not have otherwise been able to access an assessment, and ultimately, the supports that follow.

Thank you for backing more accessible, timely care for our community.
