Animalius Vet
16/07/2026
Bodie was referred to see the Animalius Dentistry team after his referring vet caught sight of his canine tooth and noticed that it was discoloured purple. Colour change in teeth is a sign of pulp necrosis (tooth death).
There are a few options to treat pulp necrosis:
· Root ca**l therapy
· Root ca**l therapy with custom metal crown
· Extraction of the dead tooth
Bodie underwent a root ca**l treatment where the tooth is drilled open and the pulp chamber cleaned before resealing the tooth. The tooth was then shaped to accommodate the metallic crown to protect the remaining structure as best we can from the wear of a life of vigorous Labrador chewing.
Once the laboratory had created the custom fitted crown, Bodie returned to have this cemented onto the tooth permanently. Now he is dazzling everyone at the dog park with his shiny smile!
