THE FREAK
The Freak is a mostly blind, ferocious crocodile.
Missing one eye and with the other badly damaged, he relies on his sharp hearing, keen sense of smell, and pressure sensors along his jaws to hunt and move with precision. Caught in Darwin Harbour in 1997 after attacking small dinghies, Freak is a powerful reminder that crocodiles don’t need sight to strike. He’s also unique in appearance, with just four neck “scutes” (Osteoderms) instead of the usual six.
