🟢 Colder days have arrived — and so have the rabbits.

🟢 After a productive autumn breeding season, rabbit numbers are on the rise across the landscape. While they may appear harmless, their impact on rural properties and the environment is anything but gentle.

🟢 Originally brought to Australia in the 1850s, European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) are a major pest species. Their constant digging damages soil structure, accelerates erosion, and destroys native vegetation — all of which can compound the challenges already facing farms during winter.

🟢 Although rabbit control is a year-round responsibility, winter offers a useful window to monitor populations and assess the need for more targeted control efforts moving into spring.

🟢 Controlling invasive species like rabbits isn’t just a matter of land management — it’s a crucial part of conserving native wildlife and habitats. When pest species are kept in check, native ecosystems are given the chance to recover and thrive.

🟢 Now is the time to stay alert for signs of rabbit activity and plan ahead for effective, strategic pest and predator control.
