Congratulations to Geraldine Atkinson on her OAM. I worked alongside Geraldine many years ago on a piece of research. During this time Geraldine and the other SNAICC members taught me so much. Geraldine was generous with her knowledge and for that i am all grateful. She has been a strong advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families for so long. Consent isn't always s*xual!

It’s important to teach children about consent and their bodies long before it has anything to do with s*x. It’s also important to teach children how to react when someone doesn’t give consent.

Teaching consent is about permission, kindness, empathy and how to respect ourselves and other people.

There are many age-appropriate ways to teach consent and we cover this in our “Consent in Primary School Years” program
