PAYNE: “AURIEMMA’S PASSION SHOWS THE HUNGER.”

Penrite Australian Kart Championship race commentator Matt Payne has rated Luca Auriemma’s win in KZ2 at Coffs Harbour as one of the major highlights of the opening round.

“His emotions after the final provided some amazing scenes, and that just shows his hunger,” Payne said, looking back on over a decade of highlights as the lead caller for the championship.

“Luca, who made his comeback last year - and jumped straight into KZ2 nationally no less, was particularly impressive. He had a tough year in 2025, but starting his sophomore year in such fashion was a highlight.”

“Also notable was Auriemma taking CRG back to a win in KZ2 for the first time since 2015 - that's a long time between drinks in anyone's language. This year's KZ2 title is wide open after round one, and I can’t wait to see how the next chapter unfolds in Ipswich.”

Find out how it plays out when the Penrite Australian Kart Championship continues for round two at the Ipswich Kart Club this weekend, broadcast on 7+ on Saturday from 12:30pm and Sunday from 11:30am local time.

The venue at Champions Road Willowbank offers free entry for spectators with a wide range of refreshments available for purchase. The on-track action will begin at 8am each day.

The Townsville Kart Club will become the 15th Club to have hosted a round of the Australian Kart Championship with Round three of the 2026 Championship confirmed this morning.
