This NAIDOC Week, we’re sharing the impact of initiatives like the IntoJobs ‘Moving the Mob’ program, delivered by MRAEL, supporting First Nations jobseekers to strengthen their connection to culture, community and career pathways.
Over six days on Country, participants built practical skills in job readiness while reconnecting with identity, strengthening confidence and supporting one another along the way.
Programs like this highlight the importance of culturally grounded support in creating meaningful, sustainable employment outcomes.

For thousands of years, the Coorong has been a place of deep cultural meaning for the Ngarrindjeri people. Today, it is also shaping new futures for young people learning to care for Country.
Through a partnership with the Ngarrindjeri Lands and Progress Association, Mas National is supporting training pathways that allow students to build practical skills in land management, conservation and agriculture while staying connected to culture and community. Learning happens on Country, in an environment that values identity, belonging and purpose.
For one young participant, that connection made all the difference. When Tarah Marygold, Apprenticeship Consultant with MAS National, first met Tyerone, he was disengaged from school and struggling to see where he fit. With support from NLPA and time spent training one day each week within their agricultural program, his confidence began to grow.
Just weeks later, teachers noticed the change. When asked how he was going, Tyerone’s answer said it all: “I just love it.” That moment, the spark returning, reflects what’s possible when learning feels relevant, culturally strong and grounded in real opportunity.
This is what meaningful pathways look like. Step by step, young people are reconnecting with culture, gaining skills and building futures that honour both Country and career.

A career in the arts is not always a straight path.
For Sabine Jamieson, it took time, exploration and the right opportunity to see what was possible. With an art school background and experience in gallery and customer-facing roles, she knew she wanted to work in the sector, but a clear pathway had not yet emerged.
That changed when Sabine commenced a curator cadetship at Mosman Art Gallery, delivered by MRAEL in partnership with the gallery. The cadetship provided real, hands-on experience alongside her studies and opened access to a role she had not previously seen as attainable.
Through the program, Sabine has continued to build confidence and capability in her curatorial practice. Her commitment to learning has been recognised through a Dean’s List Honor Award, and she is now curating her first exhibition at Mosman Art Gallery, a significant milestone in her emerging career.
As part of her degree, Sabine has also gained valuable global perspective through study travel in China and Taiwan, strengthening both her personal growth and professional outlook.
Sabine’s journey reflects what can happen when passion is met with practical opportunity and structured support. Step by step, what once felt uncertain has become a clear and meaningful career pathway, shaping Vibrant Futures in the arts.
