We’re sharing an excerpt from yesterday’s conference while we prepare the full sessions for on-demand viewing.

This is a reading by from the chapter Caged Birds in their poetry collection, Autistic God.

It was one of the most emotional moments of the conference. As Kelsie read, you could hear the gentle sobs throughout the room. Since then, we have received so many messages from people who saw themselves, their children, or their younger selves in the words.

A gentle content note: this reading contains strong emotion and themes that some people may find intense. If you’re already feeling emotionally stretched, you may wish to save it for a time when you have the capacity to engage with it. The Occuplaytional Therapist

Sending all the love, care, spoons and gratitude to everyone as we wrap up another Yellow Ladybugs Conference. For many people, the days after a conference can bring all sorts of feelings. There can be inspiration, relief, pride, excitement and hope. There can also be exhaustion, overwhelm, sadness that it’s over, or that strange feeling of trying to process so much all at once. And like yesterday’s presentation it can be a cauldron of mixed bubbling emotions that we might not be able to place just yet. Many of us share about experiencing a “social hangover” after big events. Even when an experience is positive, affirming and meaningful, it can still take time for our nervous systems to process the connection, learning, emotions and energy that came with it. Some of us will spend the next few days resting, reflecting and slowly processing everything we experienced. Some of us will jump straight back into work, parenting, caring responsibilities, appointments, deadlines and the realities of everyday life. Many of us will be somewhere in between.

There is no right way to transition afterwards. If you need rest, we hope you can find it. If you need to keep going, you are not doing it wrong. Sometimes life doesn’t leave much room for recovery, and that doesn’t make your experience any less valid. The conference, and its impact, may continue to settle in your mind and body long after the week is over. Whether you spent the conference meeting new people, reconnecting with familiar faces, watching quietly from the sidelines, attending online from home, or catching sessions in a way that worked for you, thank you for being part of it.

Be gentle with yourselves over the coming days. There is no rush to process it all today.

Thank you for the stories, the conversations, the vulnerability, the laughter, the learning and the care you brought to this space. Our space. The space we are proud of. We’re so grateful you were part of it. 💛💛💛💛
