Success doesn’t always come when you think it should.

Sometimes you do everything right… and still don’t get picked.

You train harder.
You prepare better.
You outperform others.

Yet your opportunity never seems to come.

That’s where most athletes lose belief.

Michael Cilmi didn’t.

For the past 6 months he hasn’t missed a session despite a busted hand.

✔️ Added 6kg of quality muscle.
✔️ Improved his speed by 17%.
✔️ Increased his vertical jump by 22%.
✔️ Reduced his body fat by 6%.
✔️ Became stronger, more explosive and more resilient!

Every week he was dominating in the lower grades, but senior selection never came.

Politics.
Points.
Team balance.
Selection.

None of it mattered.

We had one conversation over and over:

“Keep playing so well, they can’t ignore you.”

Eventually, the opportunity came.

✅ Senior debut.
✅ Three goals.
✅ Second Best on Ground.

That’s what preparation looks like when opportunity finally arrives.

Too many athletes spend their energy complaining about coaches, selectors or circumstances.

The best athletes spend that energy becoming undeniable.

Your job isn’t to control selection.

Your job is to be so prepared that when your number is finally called, everyone remembers your performance.

To every athlete who’s been overlooked…

Keep knocking.

Keep improving.

Keep showing up.

Because when that door finally opens…

Don’t just walk through it.

Kick it off the bloody hinges.

Couldn’t be more prouder of you! USP 2XU singlet earned!

The best is yet to come!

Long-term athlete development isn’t built on shortcuts.
It’s built on consistency, patience, trust, and doing the little things right for years.”

August 2023 → February 2026.

When Raf first came to USP at 13 years old, the goal was never to create a kid who peaked early-the goal was to build a resilient athlete for the long term.

Over the past 2.5 years, Raf and his dad Dean have done absolutely everything we’ve asked of them. They trusted the process, stayed patient through major growth spurts, prioritised recovery, movement quality, gradual progression, and never chased shortcuts.

The results speak for themselves:

🔥 Chin-up hold: 6 sec → 13 reps
🔥 Push-ups: 3 → 17 reps
🔥 Vertical Jump: 42cm → 61cm
🔥 Static Jump: 38cm → 65cm
🔥 Long Jump: 133cm → 253cm
🔥 Bodyweight: 51.7kg → 68.2kg
🔥 Body Fat: 18% → 13.7%
🔥 Height: 159cm → 177cm

And most importantly…

✅ Zero major injuries.

During one of the biggest growth phases of his life, we were able to carefully manage and minimise common adolescent overuse issues like Sever’s and Osgood-Schlatter through structured programming, intelligent load management, mobility, recovery, and age-appropriate progressions.

This is why we believe so strongly in long-term athlete development.

Not smashing kids into the ground.
Not specialising too early.
Not chasing short-term success.

Just consistent work, smart coaching, and patience over time.

Super proud of Raf and massive credit to Dean for trusting the process the entire way.

The scary part?

We’re only getting started.
