Virtual Reality Therapy? 🧐 How can mental-health "avatars" be the future of telehealth services

In a 2022 study, 30% of people preferred talking to an avatar in virtual reality therapy. Virtual reality exposure therapy has been proven to help with anxiety, phobias, and other related issues.

People are likely to feel uncomfortable with too realistic avatars.

👉 Some tech experts predict that augmented reality might be mainstream within 5 years. Eventually, clients may be able to project a virtual therapist or psychiatrist into their living space.

👉 It is already the case that 45% of telehealth clients between 18 and 44 prefer this method over face-to-face contact with their therapists. (source below)

The report speculates that it will soon be more accessible for people to consult their mental health professionals via virtual reality instead of meeting with them.

They might even have their own avatar present in their provider’s room. In 2030, some experts predict all five senses will be accessible through virtual reality.
