Disabled Victorians forced to wait in hospital beds due to NDIS delays 25/05/2022

Proud to be able to help Vasilia with her housing journey 🏡

Disabled Victorians forced to wait in hospital beds due to NDIS delays More than 200 Victorians with a disability were stuck in hospital for an average of 160 days after they were well enough to be discharged, the state government says.

Plan to get NDIS participants out of hospital pitched ahead of budget 16/03/2022

The Empowered Liveability team have supported so many people to transition from hospitals, rehabs and aged care settings, and very much mimic what the Summer Foundation relay in this The Canberra Times article

The biggest barrier we see, is education across the sector, from hospital discharge teams, to support coordinators, occupational therapists, and the NDIS planning teams, where the gaps in experience and knowledge of NDIS housing options such as SDA is vast

Empowered Liveability and so many other organisations such as the Summer Foundation, have run countless educational sessions, to reach the sector, but it’s not reaching the right people

Participants are having their funds wasted, while professionals are trying to navigate a system that they haven’t been trained in, write reports that aren’t read properly and in some cases aren’t clear anyway, while SDA houses sit empty with participants ‘ear marked’ taking months and months (years in some cases) and owners of SDA properties take their houses out of the system to the general rental market to avoid losing their homes.

Thousands of people with disability are still currently waiting in hospital beds, aged care and unsuitable homes.

They’re waiting for NDIS funding to live life on their own terms, in the community.

The Summer Foundation have launched the Down to 10 days campaign to end the bureaucratic delays and provide people with disability, the approval to get the housing and support they are entitled to.

Plan to get NDIS participants out of hospital pitched ahead of budget The organisation believes fixing the problem would help prevent participants being forced into aged care homes and save taxpayers more than $400 million a year

Great catch up today with Ged Kearney and Bill Shorten for the NDIS round table discussion.

Such open, honest and frank conversation, on the direction of the sector, issues that most providers and participants are facing, staff shortages, families suffering with cuts to funding, and huge gaps in payments, approvals etc

Bill & Ged wear their heart on their sleeve and are both so passionate about the NDIS, and getting things right, holding the NDIA board accountable, and planning for changes after the election should there be a change in government! 🤞🤞🤞

Great job to all involved!
