When Ian "Powerhouse" Jacobs and Gurkan Ozkan finally met in Melbourne in 1996 for the ISKA World Super Middleweight Muay Thai Championship, Australian fight fans knew they were witnessing something special. Two elite champions. Two incredible styles. One unforgettable showdown.

💥 Ian Jacobs was one of Australia's greatest-ever kickboxers. A three-time World Champion, he became famous for his devastating knockout power, relentless pressure, and fearless attitude. Jacobs won multiple Australian, Commonwealth and World titles and later recorded the fastest knockout in kickboxing history with an astonishing 1.8-second KO, cementing his place among the sport's legends.

⚡ Gurkan Ozkan, known as "The Supreme Fighting Machine," was one of Australia's most respected technicians. His explosive kicking game, speed, toughness and ring IQ made him one of the country's biggest stars as he took on elite opponents both in Australia and internationally.

After five world-class rounds, Ian Jacobs earned a unanimous points victory, but the real winners were the fans, who witnessed two Australian legends helping put our sport on the world stage. 🌏🥊

In October 1992, at a Fitenite Promotion in Heidelberg, Victoria, Brent Donnelly and Mario Monteleone stepped into the ring for an exciting kickboxing showdown.

After three tough rounds, Mario Monteleone had his hand raised in victory, showing the skill, determination, and composure that made him one of Victoria's respected fighters.

Mario, an undefeated fighter, proudly represented John Scida's legendary Ultimate Team, one of Australia's most successful kickboxing gyms. Under Scida's guidance, Ultimate produced countless champions and elite fighters who helped shape Australian kickboxing throughout the 1990s. 🥊🏆

Brent Donnelly was never one to take an easy fight, and this bout is another reminder of the incredible depth of talent during the golden era of Australian kickboxing.

Before packed stadiums and social media, fighters earned their reputation under the bright lights of Fitenite Promotions on Tuesday nights in Heidelberg, Victoria.

On this occasion, Warren Smith put together a composed and determined performance over three hard rounds to earn the victory on points. 👏

But this fight is also a reminder of the warrior spirit of Ron Winton. 💪 Ron built a reputation as one of those fighters who never looked for easy opponents. He would take on anyone, anytime, and his toughness and willingness to challenge himself earned him enormous respect throughout the Australian kickboxing community.

In April 2004, Australia's Ashley White crossed the Tasman Sea to challenge one of New Zealand's greatest-ever kickboxers, Shane "Choppa" Chapman, at the legendary Battle of the Anzacs promotion.

Ashley White built his reputation by accepting tough fights against elite opposition, embodying the fearless spirit that Australian kickboxing became famous for. Fighters like Ashley helped pave the way for future generations by never backing down from a challenge.

Standing across the ring was Shane Chapman, a true icon of New Zealand combat sports. A multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion and two-time K-1 Oceania MAX Champion, Chapman shared the ring with some of the biggest names in the sport, including John Wayne Parr, Daniel Dawson, Albert Kraus and Yoshihiro Sato. His explosive style and relentless pressure made him one of Oceania's most respected fighters.

On this night, Chapman produced another memorable performance, earning a Round 2 TKO victory, but both men demonstrated exactly what made the Australia vs New Zealand rivalry one of the greatest in kickboxing history.
