The Dua Lipa effect: registry office or celebrant?

If you’ve seen the photos of Dua Lipa stepping out of London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall in custom Schiaparelli last week, you’ll know exactly why we’re having this conversation.

A civil ceremony. Seven guests. One very intentional outfit. And suddenly the registry office is having a moment.

It’s the question every couple weighs up at some point — registry office or private celebrant? Both lead to the same beautiful outcome. But the experience can feel very different.

We’ve pulled together insights from some of our favourite celebrants and photographers to help you decide which option fits the way you want to mark the day.

Dua Lipa just made the case for the bridal blazer ✨

She said “I do” in custom Schiaparelli, a wide-brimmed hat and white gloves, and is a case in point of how a registry ceremony can feel ultra-chic and impactful.

(More on registry ceremonies from me in tonight’s reel.)

Dua Lipa married actor Callum Turner at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall on Sunday, stepping out to confetti in a tailored ivory blazer with a sculpted asymmetric skirt by Schiaparelli, Christian Louboutin pumps and a Bulgari serpent necklace.

It’s giving contemporary bridal; bold personality, tailored style and nod to her own style icons.

Vogue credits Dua Lipa’s reference point to Bianca Jagger, 1971 - also a blazer, also a hat; a fit that made bridal cool.

Almost 55 years on, the cool-girl bridal torch has been passed.
