🐶 Pica is the medical word for the eating disorder that is characterized by non-food items. Though pica is often just a sign of boredom, especially in younger dogs, it can sometimes be an indication that your dog has some sort of nutritional deficit 🐕

This type of pica seldom results in any major issues. Wild dogs have also been reported to do this. In actuality, the majority of vets view it as normal canine behavior. Grass was identified as the most often consumed plant in another study on canines that consume plants. 🐶

🐩 Some people claim that when dogs are ill, they may start eating grass in an effort to induce vomiting, which would help them recover. Others contest this concept on the grounds that it has not been demonstrated that dogs are intelligent enough to choose to remedy an upset stomach by eating grass. If your dog exhibits pica behaviour due to a nutritional shortage, changing to a healthier dog food, particularly one with high fibre content, may help solve the issue. 🐕

⚠️ Although the majority of experts concur that grazing isn't dangerous in and of itself, it's important to remember that some pesticides and herbicides used on lawns may be highly poisonous, especially if consumed. Also, certain common home and garden plants are poisonous, which might cause issues if your dog eats them along with the grass. Do your study on poisonous and non-toxic plants to ensure that the plants in and surrounding the region where your dog is eating grass are safe. 🐶

⚠️WARNING WHEN FREEZING TREAT TOYS

Please ensure that if you are stuffing treat toys and freezing them for your pets to help keep them cool, dont forget to ensure there is a HOLE ALL OF THE WAY THROUGH IT.

WHY YOU MAY ASK ?

Toys such as Kongs have 2 holes in their toys for a reason - TO PREVENT SUCTION.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT ?

When your pet licks at the contents of the toy or squeezes it in its mouth, their tongue can get SUCKED into the hole and get STUCK on the dogs tongue and cause horrific injuries to the point where the animal can actually die.

Having 2 HOLES in the toy PREVENTS this from happening.

So if you STUFF your toys with treats, push a straw through it to ensure the 2 HOLES ARE NOT BLOCKED.

If you are going to FREEZE the toy, do so with the straw in place and then REMOVE the straw before giving it to your pet.

So when buying your pet toys, please keep this in mind.

Hope this little tip helps you keep your animals safe!

Cats can be fussy, so finding the right litter box may take some time. Follow these steps to choose the right litter box for your cat:

😺 Consider the size of your cat. A litter box should allow your cat to turn around easily. If the box is too small, your cat may refuse to use it or urinate over the edge onto the floor.

😺 Choose the right height. Most cats can easily get into and out of a litter box with semi-high sides. However, an older cat or a cat with mobility problems may need one with lower sides.

😺 Get at least one box for each cat. Cats are very private animals and won't typically share a litter box with other cats in the home. Provide one box for each cat, plus a spare.

😺 Leave upgrades for later. Add-ons like covers and liners and fancy self-cleaning gadgets can seem like useful items, but you might want to wait and add these at a later date once your cat is happily using the litter box.
