The Albanese Labor Government plans to expand access to quality early education with a $1 billion Building Early Education Fund, starting in July 2025. This will fund new and expanded childcare centres, particularly in outer suburbs and regional areas, with a focus on not-for-profit providers and co-locating services on school sites.

From January 2026, the 3 Day Guarantee will replace the Activity Test, ensuring all children can access at least three days of subsidized early education. The government
will also develop an Early Education Service Delivery Price to better understand service costs and support future reforms.

The Cheaper Child Care reforms have already helped over 1 million families, saving them an average of $4,400. A 15% pay rise for early educators is also being rolled out to strengthen the workforce.
