Song of Solomon Controversy – Is Erotica in the Bible? | Finding Truth Matters 12/07/2026

In the biblical history of ancient Israel, the "Exile" period was when the warnings of Deuteronomy 28 went unheeded and initially the Northern Kingdom was invaded and scattered by the Assyrians (Deut. 28:64; 2 Kings 15:29), then the southern kingdom of Judah was invaded by the Babylonians who "exiled" the Judeans to Babylon.
While exield in Babylon, then Persia (who eventually conquered the Babylonians) the Jewish elders were concerned about their younger generations not knowing their history, the laws, and their writings. A new genre of literature also developed during this time known as "Wisdom Literature." One of those Wisdom Literature books which was produced then was known as "The Song of Songs" which also became known as "The Song of Solomon" even though King Solomon has not written it, since he had died around four centuries earlier.
Consider now the controversy that has arisen around this book, and how understanding its origin can help to resolve this:

Dr. Freddy Davis describes himself as an international missionary. He served as an overseas missionary and church-planter in Japan, Latvia (former Soviet Union era) and then as a missionary back in the country of his birth - the United States of America! Freddy says that when he returned to the USA afer being away for nearly 20 years, it was a different country! He says, "When I arrived back, it hit me in the face just how different it had become with its 'worldview' assumptions!"

He realised that many churches and pastors had not yet grasped just how difficult this meant for the Christian message to even be understood let alone appealing to the average unchurched American. After several successful pastorates, Freddy realise that his experiences as a cross-cultural missionary where the skills the he utilised to reach people for Christ and grow his churches. But he knew that much more had to be done and wanted to help as many pastors and church congregations to also employ the skills of building cultural bridges into the culture of unreached America. It was then that the Lord called Freddy into Market-Faith Ministries which provides pastors, church leaders and congregations to have the kind of conversations that help them present the Christian worldview in an understandable and attractive manner.

In this interview you will hear Dr. Freddy's heart for people and how he can help you, your pastor, and your church to become more skilled in employing the skills of a cross-cultural missionary to reach the people that live next door, in your street, your apartment building, your workplace, your customers or your school-friends, more effectively with the claims of the God of the Bible.
