True Colours Connect
Let’s talk fluoro.
There simply isn’t enough of it in the world, in my view.
Has anyone else noticed that colour seems to be slowly fading from the world? Cars are increasingly white, black, grey, or silver. Clothing racks are filled with beige, cream, khaki, and muted tones. Even homes and public spaces seem to favour “safe” colours over vibrant ones.
Maybe it’s because I grew up in the 80s, when fluoro was everywhere—on clothes, bikes, pencil cases, windbreakers, and anything else that could possibly glow. Or maybe it’s because no matter how old I get, those colours still make me smile.
From a colour theory perspective, fluorescent colours are fascinating. They appear brighter than regular colours because they absorb ultraviolet light and re-emit it as visible light, making them seem almost luminous. They don’t just reflect light—they amplify it. It’s why they grab our attention so quickly and feel so energetic and alive.
Psychologically, bright colours are often associated with optimism, creativity, playfulness, confidence, and energy. They demand to be noticed. They refuse to fade quietly into the background.
And perhaps that’s what I love most about them.
In a world that can sometimes feel heavy, beige, and serious, fluoro feels like permission to be bold, expressive, joyful, and a little bit rebellious.
Maybe it’s just how I’m wired, but I find myself longing for more colour in the world. More bright cars. More colourful clothes. More things that make us stop, smile, and feel something.
I refuse to conform.
You’ll find me choosing the bright pen, the colourful artwork, the rainbow supplies, and the fluoro whenever I get the chance.
The world doesn’t need less colour.
It needs more.
The 80s were onto something.

Sometimes connection begins with a simple, emergent invitation.
This invitation wasn’t planned. It arose naturally in the moment to create paper doll versions of one another. A playful, creative process that opened space for curiosity, observation, imagination, and connection.
In creative arts therapy, the artwork is often only part of the story. The real magic can be found in the shared experience of creating alongside someone else, noticing details, being seen, and exploring relationships through art.
A reminder that connection doesn’t always need words. Sometimes it starts with paper, pens, and a willingness to create together.
🌈Made to create.
🌈Made to connect.

✨ Hi from True Colours Connect ✨
I’m Lisa Kerr, Creative Arts Therapist and founder of True Colours Connect.
Sometimes a simple “hi” can be the beginning of something important.
A new connection.
A creative adventure.
A place to feel seen, heard, and understood.
At True Colours Connect, I offer a warm, creative space where children, young people, and adults can explore their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and strengths through art, play, imagination, storytelling, and sensory experiences.
Creativity isn’t about being good at art. It’s about having another way to communicate, explore, process, and connect.
Whether you’re navigating challenges, building confidence, exploring identity, or simply looking for a space where you can be yourself, you are welcome here.
So from this colourful LEGO version of me…
Hi 👋 I’m Lisa, and I’m glad you’re here.

Late finish tonight.
A quiet moment to pause before heading home and to feel grateful for all that has become of True Colours Connect.
Sometimes I look around this space and think about the little person I once was—the one who dreamed of creating, imagining, and helping others feel seen. I never could have imagined that one day I would have a studio where creativity, connection, and healing come together every day.
Creative Arts Therapy offers so much more than making art. It provides a space to:
✨ Express feelings that can be difficult to put into words
✨ Build confidence and a stronger sense of self
✨ Explore challenges in a safe and supported way
✨ Develop emotional regulation and coping skills
✨ Foster connection, curiosity, and play
✨ Reduce stress and anxiety through creative expression
✨ Discover strengths, possibilities, and new ways of seeing the world
Every painting, collage, sculpture, sand tray world, conversation, and moment of creative exploration tells a story.
Tonight I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the people who trust me to walk alongside them, for the stories shared within these walls, and for the opportunity to do work that feels deeply meaningful.
The little girl who loved colour, imagination, and creating would be pretty amazed by all of this. 🌈

🌿 To the homeschool community — our door is open for you.
At A Fitting Connection, we believe that learning happens best when young people get to make, do and experience things in the real world. That's why we're opening our Creative Community Space to homeschool groups where creativity, curiosity and community come together.
Bring your own program and use our space, or let us design a creative or sewing session tailored to your group. Whatever works best for you and your students, we'll make it work.
🪑 Space only — $5 per head
🧵 Space + sewing machines — $10 per head
✨ Guided creative or sewing program — available for an additional fee
Space comfortably fits 6–8 students.
We're a certified social enterprise with a mission close to our hearts — keeping textiles out of landfill and giving them new life in the community. We love sharing our story with young people and are always happy to have a short conversation with your group about sustainability, circular fashion and what it means to be a business built around community impact. 💚
Real world learning. Hands-on creativity. A community that cares.
We'd love to hear from you — send us a DM or email to start the conversation! 📩
There’s something about art supplies in Japan… they just hit differently 🎨✨
I’m back… and unpacking all the beautiful things I couldn’t resist bringing home.
Watercolours in the softest, dreamiest shades
Fabric and pens ready to bring colour into cloth and texture
Pencils that feel just right in your hand
Sketchbooks that almost feel too special to start (but I will)
Paint brushes that make you want to slow down and really notice each stroke
And of course… stickers — because there’s always room for a little extra joy
Sitting with it all now, I’m realising how thoughtful and intentional these materials feel… like they gently invite you to create, rather than rush.
I love how art follows me wherever I go — and now a little piece of Japan gets to live in the studio too 💫
Taking it all in, getting inspired, and slowly dreaming up what’s next…

Even when I’m travelling, colour finds me.🌈🌸
Standing here at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, I couldn’t help but smile…
like I had stepped right inside it.
Colour has always felt like a language to me ,one that doesn’t need words,
just feeling.
It follows me, meets me, holds me…
in quiet moments like this.
No matter where I am in the world,
it reminds me to notice, to feel, to soften.
Maybe I don’t just see colour…
maybe I belong to it.

happy autism awareness day (and greater month) from this late diagnosed autistic ! 👋🌈
the reality is, awareness is still not equal for autistic people and we still have a long way to go in seeing both representation and support for racialized, trans/queer, moderate + higher support, and multiply disabled autistic folks! 💚 and that means we need your advocacy ALL year round to fight attacks on disability rights and connected systems of oppression!
